Gif animations show how the polarization changes across the face of the disk with phase. The gifs shown here are all for terrestrial plantes.
First, an aqua planet like Earth enshrouded in optically thick water clouds at 1000nm. In orange the reflected light intensity is shown. The blue dashes show the orientation of the polarization, that is, the direction the electric field oscillates. This is determined by how the light is scattered (from cloud, atmosphere, haze, surface, etc.).
Next we have the circular polarization of Venus at 600nm. The colors correspond to the sign (positive or negative) and thus where it effectively moves in a clockwise or counter-clockwise corkscrew.
